Model Lesson in Science
  • Common Core Standards: Reading Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects 6–12
    • Key Ideas and Details 2. Determine the central ideas or conclusions of a text; provide an accurate summary of the text distinct from prior knowledge or opinions.
    • Integration of Knowledge and Ideas 7. Integrate quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text with a version of that information expressed visually (e.g., in a flowchart, diagram, model, graph, video, or table).

    • Group Activitiy: 15 minutes

  • Assessing Prior Knowledge
    • View Animoto Video on Bats
    • Use ScreenChomp to record the discussion of learning about bats through video or through reading text.
  • Group Activity:
    • Each small group will explore a different video on bats
    • They will discuss their impressions with one member of the group taking notes in Notes or Pages or Evernote
    • Their goal is twofold: to learn about bats and to discuss how learning through video differs from learning through reading text.
    • Create a Keynote presentationthat focuses on different ways of learning to share with other groups
